Model UN stands for Model United Nations, a group of students enthusiastic about international politics and debate in a collegiate level. I first heard of this concept when I was in high school (Rabun Gap does proudly have a strong MUN team, led by Dr. Marion Trustlow). Anyhow, I didn’t participate in it because of other sport commitments during that time.
The Denison MUN group was founded by the Daswani brothers (class of 2015) the year before I came, and they have been doing a lot of good things to develop the club and grow membership. I became involved with it in my first semester, attending various meetings and even one conference in OSU. Unfortunately, the group kept decreasing in terms of membership, as more and more people started losing interests with it. By the end of the year, Rohin and Raghav decided to create a whole new executive board who is going to run the organization by next year.
The exec board includes Abdi Ali’16, Nathan Myers’17, Larry Li’17 and myself. We have been having 4 to 5 meetings towards the end of last semester to discuss possible strategies to run the group, including PR ideas, PoliSci department reach-out, and other school contact. This summer, I am working on getting online materials for our club to use next year. Hopefully, we’ll be growing stronger and go to more conferences in the 14-15 academic year.
